Advanced Surface Treatment - Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

Photorefreactive Keratectomy (PRK) is the original excimer laser technique and Dr David Kent was the first surgeon to perform it in the South Island in 1997.

This procedure is recommended as an alternative to HD LASIK® for those with a thin cornea; a cornea that does not have a symmetrical shape; or anyone at high risk of eye injury.

The evolution of PRK with the new personalised, wavefront-guided excimer laser now supercedes the outdated techniques of Epi-LASIK and Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis (LASEK).
