We are committed to providing excellence in Laser Eye Surgery through the expertise of Dr David Kent. Since 1996 we have invested more in laser eye correction technology and installed more refractive lasers than any other clinic in the South Island. We are the only South Island clinic to have a purpose-built high quality laser theatre facility with proper medical standard HEPA filtration, positive pressure, cold water cooled medical operating theatre quality air conditioning. We have the only IntraLase femtosecond laser in the South Island so that we can provide the safest LASIK eye surgery available today.
Experience & Expertise
- Fendalton Eye Clinic was established in 1996 by Dr David Kent. He has performed more LASIK surgery than any other New Zealand eye surgeon with over 16,000 procedures in 2010. He has been involved in excimer laser surgery since working in the USA in 1994 - longer than any other South Island eye surgeon.
- Dr Kent was the first South Island eye surgeon to perform all of the currently practiced laser eye surgery techniques including PRK, microkeratome LASIK, customised treatments and IntraLase all-laser High Definition LASIK.
- We were also the first in the South Island to begin personalised (wavefront-guided) laser treatments in 2002.
Technology
High Definition LASIK® for safety and accuracy
All our treatments are individually personalised or customised treatments. We use the Technolas Perfect Vision system. All our primary treatments are personalised (customised) using either wavefront-guided, aspheric treatments customised to your corneal shape or tissue saving with cosine correction.
We have the only laser system in the South Island that has Iris Recognition technology for both alignment of the axis and full registration of the customised treatment. Preoperatively a digital image of your eye is created from the unique pattern of your iris. When you return for treatment, the laser recognises your eye, aligning your specific treatment in the correct orientation to enable the laser treatment to be delivered with pin point accuracy. This is important because all measurements of your eye are taken with you sitting but the treatment is done with you lying down under the laser. It is possible for your head to be not straight or your eye to rotate. Only iris recognition technology can perfectly align the treatment.
- The Technolas Perfect Vision excimer laser system is the only current system with 4 dimensional eye-tracking technology. During your laser treatment the eye tracking system will track your eye up and down, right and left, vertically and also track any rotational movement to ensure the most accurate placement of each pulse of the laser. This accuracy is achieved with both static and active dynamic iris recognition technology
- Of all the lasers in use in NZ the Bausch & Lomb Z100 laser has achieved the best visual results in US FDA studies. In particular, the FDA results with the B&L laser were superior to the Wavelight Allegretto laser.
