Retinal Disease

The retina is the light sensitive tissue lining the inside of your eyeball. There are a number of common conditions of the retina that can seriously affect your sight. At Fendalton Eye Clinic we can diagnose and treat you if one of the below could be present.

Retinal Detachment
– this sight threatening problem usually occurs in patients over 50, or in those who have had myopia, trauma, or hereditary problems.  The early symptoms can include a sudden onset of new ‘spots’ or ‘floaters’ in your vision, decreased vision, and bright light flashes (seen in normal daylight).  If these ‘floaters’ occur you should have a thorough eye examination within the following week.

Diabetes – Up to 30% of diabetic patients may develop sight-threatening problems in their retina.  Regular diabetic screening (photographs or examination by an eye specialist) is necessary to detect changes before they affect your vision.
